Gastroenterology is a medical specialty that relates to
the diagnosis of disorders related to the digestive system. Diseases
affecting the gastrointestinal tract include the organs from mouth to anus,
along the alimentary canal. Digestive disorders have become the most common
medical problem. They can at most times be annoying, at times debilitating
and, in some cases, life-threatening.
The Department of Gastroenterology offers a comprehensive, sophisticated
diagnosis and medical treatment for adults and children by a skilled and
experienced staff. It is equipped with state of the art video endoscopes
that help to diagnose virtually all mucosal diseases of the gastrointestinal
tract accurately and rapidly. We have been able to bring therapeutic relief
to patients by utilizing techniques such as foreign body extraction (coin,
denture, bone, meat bolus), dilatation of strictures (both benign and
malignant), endoscopic hemostasis (stopping bleeding from ulcers, vascular
malformation, varices), stenting for malignant tumors (particularly
esophageal), removal of polyps from stomach and colon, and feeding tube
placement.
